IYC wants NNPC $25bn contract scam probed

The umbrella body of Ijaw youths, the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, has called on the Federal Government to investigate the $25bn contract scandal rocking the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

The spokesman for the IYC, Mr. Daniel Dasimaka, made the call during an interview on Tuesday in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

The media were recently awash with the leaked letter by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, alleging among other things, irregularities in the $25bn contract award and insubordination by the Group Managing Director of the corporation, Dr. Maikanti Baru.

The IYC spokesman said, “It is quite unfortunate that once again those who are saddled with the management of our oil wealth are busy mismanaging it while ordinary Nigerians, especially the Niger Deltans, who suffer the brunt of oil exploration and production live in abject poverty.
