Elections: INEC raises the alarm on budget delay, CDHR, others flay National Assembly

The Independent National Electoral Commission says the delay in passing the budget for the 2019 elections gives cause for concern.

The Commissioner for Voter Education at INEC, Solomon Soyebi, said this on Tuesday on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television.

Soyebi said the conventional budget for the running of the commission had been approved, but the budget for the 2019 elections, which was submitted separately, had not been approved, adding that it was worrisome given the fact that the 2019 elections are less than a year away.

He said, “For this year, there are two sets of budget: the regular budget and then the elections budget. We have submitted the elections budget. The regular budget has been approved and I believe that is what we are operating.
