Apo killings: CACOL wants death sentence abolished

A civil society organisation, Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, has expressed reservation over the death sentence passed on two cops, who were on Thursday convicted of being responsible for the killing of two out of the six Igbo traders shot dead in the Area 11 of Garki, Abuja on June 8, 2005.

The cops, Ezekiel Achejene and Emmanuel Baba, were convicted and sentenced to death on Thursday by the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Justice Ishaq Bello.

Reacting to the judgment, however, the Executive Chairman of CACOL, Mr. Debo Adeniran, said, in a statement, that the group welcomed the judgment, notwithstanding that it took so long for the case to end, with the families of the victims subjected to psychological and emotional trauma.
